By rising up against the injustices of Assad and his regime, the Syrian Woman challenged all the ideas and stereotypes that were casted on her by minds claiming wisdom and global leadership while being stagnant in international circles, such as feminists and human rights organisations, as well as [Syrian] compatriots who have blindly adopted the slogans of those organisations.

امرأة سورية
قلبت المرأة السورية الثائرة على ظلم الأسد ونظامه جميع المفاهيم والأفكار التي استكانت لها عقول ادّعت الحكمة وقيادة العالم وركدت طويلاً في مستنقعات المحافل الدولية من منظمات حقوق المرأة ومساواتها بالرجل إلى منظمات حقوق الإنسان ككل مروراً بحاملي شعارات تلك المنظمات من أبناء الوطن المقلدين لها تقليداً أعمى.
على مرّ السنين، كنا نقرأ مئات المقالات والأخبار والتقارير على مواقع الإنترنت المخصصة للتركيز على مستقبل المرأة العربية وحقها في ممارسة حريتها والخروج عن التقاليد والصور النمطية بل وتعدتها إلى التخلص من الأديان، وحق الشاذات جنسياً بالاعتراف بزواجهن، وصيحات حركات النسوية العالمية بالدفاع عن المرأة وحريتها ! وفوق ذلك نشهد بين الفينة والأخرى أصواتاً غربية وعربية – منظمات وحركات نسائية وأفراد – تتعالى للدفاع عن حق المرأة السعودية بقيادة السيارة !
A letter to the “Civilised West”
Dear Civilised West,
When the Syrian uprising erupted in march 2011, you had a great chance to start a new era of peace and trust with the Arab and Muslim world, by deciding, then, to stand with the legitimate demands of the Syrian people and protect them from the war waged on them by the Assad regime!
Sadly, you didn’t see the chance even when some of us tried their best to show it to you! We hope the future won’t show you how foolish you were!
Now, after letting Syrian people alone facing the murderous Assad regime, and the last horrendous crime of using chemical weapons against them, you might still have a chance to, at least, save what is left of trust in you and your human rights claims, namely by stopping this murderous regime once and for all!
We are being terrorised, unlawfully detained, tortured and mass-murdered by a regime that has lost its legitimacy, a regime responsible for the death of more than 100,000 human beings, the displacement of more than 4,000,000 million and almost 1,500,000 refugees, a regime that already terrorised neighbouring nations by threatening them of chaos and a massive “earthquake that will burn the region” according to Bashar Assad! Is that not TERRORISM that you are supposed to fight!?
Dear Civilised West,
Some of your leaders claimed that they won’t let Assad cross certain red lines they’ve set for him, it seems they were just kidding, apparently he believes so, and to be frank, we also don’t think they are serious!
Some of us even think that those leaders are collaborating with Assad to suffocate our aspirations for freedom, dignity and justice. Sadly, considering all that happened so far and what’s going on, they might be right!
Last, we believe justice, human rights and the right to live and be safe must be universal, not only on your side of the borders!

امتدت جمعتنا العظيمة لأربعين سنة، مشينا فيها في درب الآلام خطوة خطوة حاملين جروح أوطاننا، وأظلمت الدنيا علينا حتّى ظننا أنه مالهذا الليل من نهاية، ثمّ هلّ السبت حاملاً نور الربيع العربي من تونس، وامتد لمصر وليبيا، إلى أن حطّ الأحد رحاله في سوريا …. فالشعب قام من بين الأموات وداس الموت بالموت ووهب الحياة للذين في القبور.
الشعب السوري قام … حقاً قام

Fourty years our Good Friday has lasted. One painful step followed by another we walked the Path of Suffering carrying the wounds of our homelands. We were so engulfed by darkness that we thought dawn will never break. Then came Saturday, glittering with the rays of the Arab Spring, rising from Tunisia and shining onto Eygpt and Libya. Finally, Sunday arrived in Syria…the people resurrected and resisted death with death, giving life to those who are alive but living as if dead in this grave known as our homeland. The Syrian people have resurrected. Yes indeed they have.

Shadi, it is too early… too much early, Alder
“A bomb fell down on the guestroom, but fortunately no one got hurt” the last words of Shadi
Shadi is a young man whom life has not shown a tooth. He has graduated from The Faculty of Press but has been forced to abandon his ink in a country that puts shackles on the people’s freedom of speech. The cultured and elegant Shadi used to narrate novellas and stories as if they were the accounts of his friends. Moreover, Shadi was a master in turning the utmost difficult moments of life into comedic situations, masking all sorrows and pains with a big smile. استمر في القراءة
Slept overnight with an amazing refugee family who had so much to give to me yet they had nothing for themselves.
It was extremely cold and harsh to say the least. I don’t think i even slept. It was too cold to fall asleep. The children were coughing all night. The mother in this family showed me where the tent was leaking from…I put my hand on the mattress it was wet all along the side. It is beyond me how these people are surviving.
Allah is keeping them alive.
I am not brave …. i do not have the courage these Syrians do. I am weak…i cannot stand a few minutes in the cold they have spent months in.

“لقد قضيت الليل مع عائلةٍ رائعةٍ من اللاجئين الذين كان لديهم الكثير ليقدموه لي رغم أنهم لم يكن لديهم شئٌ لأنفسهم.
لقد كان البرد، كأقلّ مايمكن أن يقال، شديداً وقاسياً. لاأعتقد أنني غفوت على الاطلاق، لقد كان البرد أكثر من أن يستطيع المرء النوم معه وكان الأطفال يسعلون طوال الليل. لقد أرتني الأم من أين يتسرب الماء للخيمة ووضعتُ يديي على الفراش فوجدته مبللاً على طول جانبه … يُعجزني التفكير كيف أن هؤلاء الناس مازالوا على قيد الحياة!
لابد أن الله يبقيهم أحياء …
أنا لست شُجاعةً … ولا أمتلك شَجاعةَ هؤلاء السوريين … أنا ضعيفةٌ ولا أستطيع تحمل البرد الذي أمضوا فيه شهوراً، لا أستطيع تحمله لدقائق معدودة!
أحسست أن علييّ مشاركتكم بالقصة سريعاً … سأعاود الدخول مرة ثانية وسيتم التوزيع اليوم إن شاء الله.”

Mr. Mouaz al-Khatib, was elected on the 11.11.2012 to head a new coalition to oppose President Bashar al-Assad’s government.
Mr. al-Khatib, a leading cleric and an opposition figure in Syria, originally studied applied Geophysics and worked as an engineer for six years.
Besides being a member of the Syrian Geological Society and the Syrian Society for Psychological Science, He was previously President and remains Honorary President of the Islamic Society of Urbanization. He was also a former imam of the Umayyad mosque in Damascus.
Mr. al-Khatib was arrested and released several times for criticising Assad’s rule and conduct during the revolution in Syria before he left for Cairo, Egypt recently.
Parallel to the announcement of the new coalition and to the election of Mr. al-Khatib’s, the Free Syrian Translators is re-broadcasting this video “Freedom for the Sheikh, the Preacher, Ahmad Mouaz Al-Khatib Al-Hasani” which we translated earlier this year to demand his release following his arrest by the Syrian regime the 27.04.2012

أما آن لها أن تحطم ذاك الزجاجَ وتمدّ له يدَها قبل أن يقع مغشيّاً عليه… لتعطيه الدواءَ القادرعلى إنقاذ ماتبقى منه قبل فواتِ الأوان على كليهما ليُحييا نفسيهما معاً…
هو.. الشعب السوري في ثورته … وهي ..الإنسانية المتفرجة عليه من وراء الشاشات!

لن أقف متفرجةً…لن أخنق روحي…لن أسكت على ظلمٍ أو عدوان

لأنّ يقيني يعلم أنّه لن يصيبني إلا ماكتب الله لي

لن تحبسني قوالب ولا تثنيني نظرات الرعب ومخافة الشفقة

وإن اغتصِبتُ فلأني شريفةٌ ولن يزيدني كل ذاك إلا شرفاً على شرف

ألا لعنة الله على النساء في مجتمعٍ تُهدّد المرأة من القريب قبل الغريب…من الأب والزوج وحتى الأم… بالطرد والتشريد والتجويع إن نطقت روحها…نعم ألا لعنة الله على النساء إن سكتنّ وتركن الزمام لمجتمعٍ كهذا ليضع لهنّ اللجام…لا تركعي الا لخالقك…لا تهني ولا تحزني…ثوري اليوم قبل أن تنقرضي….ثوري فإن الثورة أنثى
فجاءني صوته مجيباً:
ثوري .. وحافظي على وجودك و كرامتك .. ثوري واحفظي كبريائك .. ثوري .. واحفظي بقلبك خالقك ..
أنا المرأة الثائرة السورية…..وهو الشعب السوري الحر الأبي العظيم
